    Typical human resource activities and actions can be expressed using general Business English verbs. The human resources department is responsible for the company workforce. The following verbs are used to talk about actions related to the company staff carried out by the department. In general, human resources activities include recruiting, training, evaluating, and firing employees. Examples below show how and when to use human resources verbs.

Appoint

Example: The board of directors appointed John Walters as the financial manager of Lotus Ltd.

 

Demote

Example: If a staff member continues to underperform in their current position, they will be demoted to a position suitable for them.

 

Evaluate

Example: Managers are regularly evaluated based on their professional performance and their relationship management.

 

Fire

Example: Lotus HR manager, Elena Sanders, fired a staff member based on a sexual harassment complaint from two employees.

 

Hire

Example: Lotus HR manager is going to hire two more people for the sales department within this year.

 

Let go

Example: A rather large company let go of 40% of his staff due to serious financial problems.

 

Promote

Example: Nadia Sully was promoted to senior lab expert due to her remarkable performance in the past three years.

 

Recruit

Example: Only three interviewees have been recruited out of nearly twenty five applicants.

 

Resign

Example: Nadia Jenkins resigned from her position because she and the board had different views.

 

 

Train

Example: Lotus trains all its new recruits to make sure they understand how people and departments work together.

    In a paragraph or two, write about the human resources activities in your company. Try to use as much verbs as you can.
